Henry Wilburn Gourley was born on 25 Sep 1879 in the Curry Creek Community (now Kendalia), Kendall, Texas and died in Kerrville, Kerr, Texas on 27 Jan 1971. He was the son of John Lozier Gourley and Betty Florence Piper Gourley.

On 31 Mar 1900 he married Jessie Ada Scott. They had seven children:

Dovie Anna Gourley who married George Leslie Dowdy;

Ross Marion Gourley who married Anna Lucile Nagey;

Scott Gourley (15 Jul 1905 - 22 Oct 2009);

John Archibald "Archie" Gourley;

Beulah Gourley;

Eugene Raymond Gourley who married Bobbie V Hicks; and

Louis Fulcher Gourley who married Evelyn Lucile Blackburn.
